Rachel Henry is a 26 year old Creative that hails from the community of La Brea, Trinidad and Tobago. Rachel is a recent graduate of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts, with First Class Honors and is now continuing her Post-graduate studies.

Rachel has always had a passion for the arts, which peaked during her time at Holy Faith Convent, Penal. There, she achieved many awards at the secondary school level for her contribution in Visual and Performing Arts both nationally and regionally.  She attributes her success at the secondary level to the immense support she received from her teachers; Judith Booker and Serene Hamlet who asserted her of her potential and guided her in the arts.

During her time at university Rachel was reassured of her love for caribbean culture and the arts, Her experience and training further bolstered her appreciation and admiration for Caribbean Culture and her resolve to create avenues of inclusion in all communities throughout the Caribbean. Rachel began her work to establish these avenues through several non-profit community engagements long before her academic studies and training. Her goal is to inspire healthy lifestyles and cultural sensitivity by using the arts to highlight the richness and beauty of our culture and heritage.

A foundation member and former Vice President of national award-winning non-profit organization No Youth Left Behind (NYLB), she began her quest by utilizing NYLB as one of the many innovative vehicles to
connect and train youth in all things cultural.

 

In 2020, merging her passion with her academic credentials, she created and launched her first of many arts programs. One being a free workshop entitled “ArtWorks!”, focused on creating a safe space for both immigrant and local youth, garnering them to understand and appreciate the cultural diversity of the varying nationalities residing in the community of Curepe through the arts. Ms. Henry is always dedicated to finding new and innovative ways to develop and empower youth through arts and culture in her community and by extension the Caribbean.

Crazy about the Caribbean is not just a book to Rachel, driven by her desire to share the magic of the Caribbean with a broader audience, Rachel took her passion to the next level by creating the innovative program, "Caribbean Saturdays." Held in the National Children's Library of Trinidad and Tobago, this initiative is a dynamic platform that brings the essence of the Caribbean to life to children from various parts of the country through a series of immersive experiences inspired from the activities within the SCAN-tivity book. From interactive workshops on traditional Caribbean dance forms to hands-on sessions exploring the culinary delights of the region, Caribbean Saturdays is a testament to Rachel's commitment to fostering a deeper appreciation for the culture among youth she holds dear.

Her work seeks to not only educate but also inspire others to connect with and appreciate the richness of the Caribbean heritage.
